What is dermoscopy?

A dermoscope is an optical instrument with special lighting that magnifies the skin and reveals structures invisible to the naked eye. It is the dermatologist's reference tool to analyse moles and pigmented lesions.

What is it used for?

  • Melanoma screening and monitoring of moles.
  • Diagnosis of skin lesions: spots, keratoses, skin cancers, warts.
  • Trichoscopy: examination of the scalp and hair in case of hair loss.
  • Examination of nails and nail pigmentation.

Who should have their moles checked?

  • People with many moles, or atypical moles.
  • Anyone with a personal or family history of melanoma.
  • Fair skin, or a history of significant sun exposure or sunburn.
  • Any spot that changes shape, colour or size, or bleeds.

Living in Morocco means strong sun all year round: a regular skin check is a simple and useful habit, particularly for fair-skinned people.

This information is general and does not replace a medical consultation. Results vary from one person to another; your treatment plan is always defined with Dr ESSADEQ during the consultation.
